History
|
Once upon a time, in 1990, during a cold winter night in a châlet in Switzerland, a group of friends, all BMX fans of the early 80's and enthusiastic snowboarders were waiting for the end of a snowstorm. Franck Petoud was one of them and had the brillant idea to cut his snowboards and fix it to a Fun-scoot frame. He had just invented the "Snowscoot". After a few modifications, a couple beers, a bottle of tequila and several hours later, the two first prototypes were ready to be tried. Surprised by the incredible potential of such a new toy, he patented it, firmly convinced that his invention would create a revolution in the traditionnal world of skiing. |

In association with Max Commençal (Chairman of SUNN SA), he developped the first commercial models under the trademark SUNN and presented them officially in 1991 at the french international ski show. Slowly but surely Franck has made passion grow up into a real sport, so that his commercial system was getting small to face all the orders. In 1996, Max integrated him and his crew in his company and created the Snowscoot Dept under license of Franck's patent and under his authority. In 1998, the total sales of the Snowscoots dept was beating the BMX dept of the Sunn Company and Snowscoots were sold into more than 12 Countries. In the same time, the company had grown from a 15 employees structure to a 160 employees big organisation because of its spectacular results in bicycle competitions world wide and its great commercial success. For no comprehensiv reason Max got kicked out from his president chair end of 1998 and from that day, Sunn SA went into serious commercial problems due to bad Mountain Bike market and a very bad work of it's new presidence, Franck Decided after having bought the whole snowscoot stock to create his own Company located in Swizerland where the snowscoot was born and gave it its own identity by creating his own trademark: INSANE TOYS. |

Evolution
|
Although most snowscooters are riding motocross, BMX, mountain bikes, or jet skis, the sport has grown to a very diversified audience. Actually two types of fans mostly represent the Snowscoot, those who like strong sensations and do not hesitate to fly of cliffs or big airs and look forward to perform the craziest tricks, And those to slide slowly and comfortably down the mountains, enjoying and easy snow sport very securised in any situation. The population of snowscooters is not yet of a size comparable to that of the skiers or snowboarders, but it is consistently growing all over the world, not only in Europe but also in America and Japan. |
